While we have different methods that may be perceived as opposing, I have to give a big ‘Thank You’ to Achariya for her current collection of posts. I believe for many of us, she is a security blanket made human; when she asked me to give my thoughts, it provided a productive outlet for my thoughts rather than just vomiting my upset here.

There are some things we just cannot do. For Ach, she cannot stop blogging- she’s openly stated she uses it to stay sane. Some creators are very dependent on their revenue and cannot go without sales for an extended period of time. Some users are unable to stick with simple actions to make their point and must go to greater lengths.

All of this acceptable. I am of the belief that, as each person has a different face, each person has a different way that is right for them, and the right, just ways will ultimately arrive at the same goal.

What is not acceptable is the negative framing. The protesters are not ‘boycotters of creators’, the creators staying open and the buyers are not ’selfish’ or ‘greedy’, and no one is ’stupid’. No one should be vilified, as the hurt it causes ultimately detracts from everyone, no matter what their path.

I have expressed my hurt in comments on two blogs; they were written with passion, and I strived to not use curses or be attacking in any way. However, they could be perceived as aggressive, and for that, I apologize. When I become involved in movements or events, I can be very sensitive to negatives and fall into defensive positions.

Remember, Remember
The 5th of November…

A few people close to me may remember I offered free fantasy avatar kits in-world. They were confined to XstreetSL for some time, but I have finally rebranded and set-up my shop – .! Chaotic Neutral !. is now open to the public. The classics and a few new products as well, including two free skins to help spread a message: content theft is not acceptable.

The group The Artist’s Voice is urging people to STOP for 48 hours- stop buying, stop selling, stop uploading, stop exchanging linden. The hope is that, if enough people act, it will force Linden Labs to take a serious look at the issue of content violation plaguing the grid.

Understandably, this action will not work for everyone. The biggest complaint I’ve heard is that people cannot forgeo 48 hours without income; whatever your issue may be with it, I urge you to do something. Hand out information about content theft, go to a Linden Lab meeting and make a fuss, have a V for Vendetta night in your RL home while avoiding SL, only do it for 24- just do something. Instead of tearing down those seeking something positive for everyone because what they are offering doesn’t fit your comfort zone, find something that does and act.

For myself, all of my products except my V for Voice skins will not be accessible in-world, and possibly not through XstreetSL. After 48 hours, they will return. If I make an impact, great.; if not, no one can point at me and say I was a lazy ass that did nothing but whine.

I was digging about my blog drafts to see what I could work on, and lo’ and behold, I found this little number, perfect for this ‘heathen’ holiday time. Amongst all the sugar and frills, a little education might add a nice kick to your Halloween or Samhain-

Since this is one of those prickly pears you’re supposedly not supposed to eat in public, I’ll say this up front:

a) In terms of overall research, I’m an amateur in the field,
b) I studied and explored these subjects for 2-3 years,
c) I actively converse with people of different experience levels and backgrounds during this time,
d) I have some heritage on my maternal side regarding this, and
e) It’s been a few years since I looked at these matters in depth, so I’m rusty.

Bearing this all in mind, I’d say I have a decent grasp of what I’m talking about. Which, I guess would be helpful to spit-out: the realm of Paganism and related topics. However, I am not going to share some amazing spell on how to get your missing inventory back or will completely eliminate bots of the grid. I am, though, going to show you how to spell and use words correctly so you can look a little less silly when you poke someone’s eye out with a wand.

First, what de fark is Paganism? In the simplest idea, it is a non-Abrahamic faith. Abrahamic refers to any faith that connects itself to Abraham, a pinnacle Hebrew figure in the Book of Genesis; the three Abrahamic traditions everyone should know are Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

So, technically, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and the like are considered Pagan traditions. Yet, just as a Apple machine is a personal computer, you will get weird looks if you call your Mac a PC. So, in colloquial (common) usage, Paganism mostly refers to any non-Abrahamic, non-mainstream faith. Granted, this is still rather broad, and ultimately it’s best to weigh each distinct faith on its own. Just as Judaism, Christianity and Islam are very different from each other, the variances among Pagan traditions can be huge.

That in mind, when referring to something of a faith-based or religious nature, Paganism and Pagan should be capitalized. Again, like other faiths, they’re proper nouns, and most of us should have it beaten into our skulls to use a big letter first for names and the like. At the same time, pagan can be a lower-case term when being used as a synonym for barbarian or hedonist. This does not mean that anyone who is a Pagan is uncivilized; this is just a reflection of the evolution of words through history. In Europe, when Christianity first rose to be a major religion in the empire, it took time for this information to disseminate throughout the rural and outer regions; thus, their Pagan ways became associated with being behind the times and uncultured, and the word gathered a new meaning.

Many Pagan faiths are polytheistic. A belief system is polytheistic if it believes in multiple deities; in contrast, a faith is monotheistic if it only has one deity. Classic examples of polytheism are the pantheons (a pantheon is a collection of gods) of the Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks. Both of these civilizations believed in multiple deities, with each having their own main focus and/or abilities. This should not be confused with a monotheistic faith that has helping-figures. In example, Catholicism – a form of Christianity – believes in one god, which is omnipotent; Catholicism also believes in angels and saints, which are viewed as assistants and messengers of the god. Rightfully so, you will probably make a Catholic mad if you call them polytheistic, just like you would ruffle feathers if you said that a building secretary had the same authority and abilities as a company CEO. (Foregoing the boss being a jerk and all.)

Some Pagan faiths today are known as Neo-Pagan because they’re, well, relatively new to the block. Wicca is considered a Neo-Pagan faith, for example. Another major sub-category of Paganism is Reconstructionism, which consists of faiths working to follow older traditions. Hellenic Reconstructionism, a faith that believes in the pantheon of the Ancient Greeks, is one such belief-system. Neo-Pagans may draw from older faiths, but they are not actively trying to “reconstruct” how things were originally practiced. Reconstructionists may also change some methods or beliefs in order to better work with modern culture and technology.

A word that probably jumped out at you was Wicca; it’s one of the most well-known when discussing this subject. Building on what was already mentioned, Wicca is nature-focused religion that has many, many sub-sects that like to disagree with one another (just like Christianity, with more or less incense). It is primarily ditheistic (two gods), with the God and Goddess (or Lord and Lady, or… yeah, not getting into it), and the faith as we know it today started in 1954 by Gerald Gardner. I will flat out say that considering it to be older than that is sheer idiocy and follows the reasoning that I’m as old as my parents because I got my genetics from them. A lot of the finer details, such as the elements, assisting deities, and whatnot are best left for another day, perhaps even in another lifetime.

Wicca is often associated with the practice of witchcraft, and many Wiccans are witches. However, they are not synonymous (even though Gardner originally used witchcraft as a name for the faith, but he had a lot of his own problems). Consider that Jesus of Nazereth was a fisherman or a carpenter at times; this does not mean you can substitute the word construction for Christianity. Similarly, you do not have to be a Christian to fish, nor do you have to be a Wiccan to practice withcraft.

Withcraft is a practice, similar to cooking and arts-n’-crafts, that incorporates a lot of mental, emotional and symbolic concepts in order to achieve the practitioner’s goal. It is not a proper noun like a religion, so it only needs to be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence and what not. As there are different types of cooking, there are different types of witchcraft (including kitchen witchcraft and more food… mmm…). As practitioners generally believe that what they do can affect themselves, their environment and others, there is a general code of ethics that writers and community members try to share. But, as with other activities like gun enthusiasm, some people decide to be morons and give it a bad image.

Bearing this all in mind, both the faiths and the practices have their own cultures, and thus their own flairs in fields like fashion. As popular Pagan faiths tend to be nature based, it is likely that followers will wear designs and colors reflecting elements they feel in tune with; a very common one is the moon and its cycles.

Thanks to Achariya for unintentionally spurring this on with her post at Rezzable dispatches way back when! Without it, I would have never pieced together this post and would not have something to present something specificly for my blog this season!

This season has been aptly named for me this year, what with falling aparts, falling outs, falling into places, and stuff just plain falling (such as the light cover in the womens’ restroom- on my head, no less). Mid-term has passed, and while I still have some matters fighting for my attention, I do have some treats to share:

Achariya is running a Halloween series, featuring a number of her friends in their favorite Halloween attire. Inspired by some drama that arose over beat-up/bloodied skins, I put together a zombie hunter ensemble using one of my favorite post-fight skins. The post also features some other action shots I took combating the living dead.

I also showed up on Ana Lutetia’s blog as part of her interview series. The activity gave me the kick in t he butt I needed to actually photograph my “default” look while answering some great questions. If given the opportunity to participate, I strongly recommend participating!

Despite there not being much since my military-themed posts here, I have done some fashion blogging within the last week or so- they just happen to be on my Rezzable dispatch. One reflection on three major fashion trends seen over the past spring and summer, while the other looked at four popular ghouls of the upcoming Halloween holiday. They are not on this blog because they provide a broad view of fashion (even if it is from my limited perspective); given the time and energy, I would expand upon one of the foci as I have done with some of my previous reviews.

I snagged a chance to create some artistic photo pieces with the latest Style It! – SL Style Challenge on FlickR. The LeeZu Miss Mara Scarf sparked an image in my mind when I opened its release notecard, and this was the excuse to take a break from it all to follow through. Look of the Days are nice to put together, but they do start to wear on me if I do not break it up.

In real life, I broke up with the individual I was seeing over the summer; the spark and vigor that shone so beautifully in the beginning burned out and it was time for me to move on. I’ve really focused on reigning in my romantic side and taking things in stride as I dive back into the dating scene. The outlook looks promising, but I will not delve into deeper details for now.

I never thought I would ever dare dabble in the workings of the modern militia. There are probably people out there that did not think I would be able to pull off another large, style-focused installment. And there are likely a scattering of naysayers who believe I can’t roleplay beyond an inpatient or fictional being.

I’ve got news for ya’- I am UAC, and this is my behemoth.

Saying life is hard in Midian City is a gross understatement- and I mean both extreme and disgusting. For a soldier, the daily grind of duty is coupled with the dingy details of a rabid city. Our uniforms and gear are a reminder of who and what we are, for ourselves as much as the spectators: the base fatigues of monotone camouflage go beyond simply obscuring us in the shadows. The dark pattern speaks of how we are surrounded in a festering urban jungle and the only people we can give any sort of real trust to are those that share the same spots. Our kits, with their dull buckles and straps, clink and clatter together to give our march a distinctive, ominous score. And when it comes to firepower, we pack a punch like no other.

One time, a reporter approached me and my fellow marine; he wanted to know about the UAC beyond the armor and order. D grumbled and held his silence while I giggled and swayed- what a fool! How you are perceived is as much defense as the kevlar vests we wear, and on or off duty, we don’t let down our guard. The scum of the city doesn’t care if we’re clocked in or not; they’ll take any opportunity to hunt us down, so we always keep our image and some equipment on hand.

Of course, one doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to gain an idea about our non-working selves. I often go out in my mechanic’s getup, and I’m sometimes treated to some pleasurable company down at the pier. Our clothes are fairly casual, with my date peeling off much of his gear while I girl it up with high-heeled boots and flower accessories. Sure, they’re old and stained with motor-oil, but they’re what we have. When you’re trying to make it to the next sunup alive, you learn quick to value these small treasures.

Then there was the time some ’shrink’ approached us on-duty and started asking about our sex life. Well… it wasn’t so much asking as vulgarly directing us to bump uglies. D was so damn lucky he had a mask on; I just about died and had to bite my tongue hard. This chick was so sure that there was some sort of passionate tension between us. To be blunt, the only tension ever felt between us in that regard are our undone pants. Clearly, though, our appearance did its job- we looked disconnected from the norm. I couldn’t wait to get underneath all those layers that night.

Am I positive the UAC is going to keep me alive? Hell no. Clearly, I was sent here to this dump because someone doesn’t want the light of day to ever shine on my face again. I’m certainly no genius that can fix this urban mess. I am sure, though, that I will continue to stand alongside the Legion as long as I can.

As mentioned, this is a themed party for roleplayers and non-roleplayers, AKA, an Out of Character party. I want people to just have fun without worrying about faction tensions or interrupting the story and what not; it’s healthy to get to know people beyond where you work or play that way people don’t develop inappropriate conceptions of others.

Finally, I will be releasing two exclusive skins – one male and one female – for free at the event. I am not blabbing this to freebie groups as the sim will probably be lagged out enough and it is special for people that are interested in the celebration. They are being released under my new brand named, .! Chaotic Neutral !., and (hopefully) they will kick-off my return to creating roleplay kits and such. In case you’re curious, I have made items for free and sale under a different brand name; I won’t go into it here, but you can get some information on my XStreetSL page.

My journey has be long, arduous, and wrought with peril. I knew when I accepted the mission from the Chief it would test my merits, but never did I imagine the challenges I would face. At times, I thought about pushing that glowing red ‘abort’ button, yet somehow, I managed to fight my way to end. And now I can show the fruits of my labor-

Strap in, the [BUBU] Army is here.

From day one, [BUBU] was the black sheep of the prim-avatar family. Not only are they a lot larger than the regular “tiny”, they can shed the ‘cute’ label and take on new adjectives without breaking a sweat. The Army update is a clear example of this flexibility and features a variety of options–

The most notable feature of this release are all the accessories. The full War Armor Set not only comes with body armor for gals and guys, but in three different styles: standard issue, with antenna back-pack, and with banner. The right shoulder-plating also has two versions, one plain and one with a skull decal. To top it off, there are two mohawks, a bandanna, a headband, a headset, and a cigar. If you’re still worried about creating a unique look, all of these items are copy and mod enabled so you can tinker to your heart’s desire.

The canvas for this urban rebellion comes in six different skins for guys n’ gals – Lightning Bolt, Skull, Shaved Head, Warstripe, Red Stripe, and Camo. I’m flashin’ the lashes the female shape of the armor for this post out of personal taste. The gear can also be worn with other BUBU skins, and I highly recommend it.

Of course, an military movement wouldn’t be complete without the addition of some heavy-duty arsenal. Behold, the [BUBU] Army Tank. A simple yet sleep vehicle with a turret attachment that, combined with HUD, does pack a punch. This weapon on wheels is guaranteed to make others rethink prim-avatars and art, especially if they want to keep those thoughts on top of their shoulders.

As the battle-lines are drawn, the [BUBU] main store is inaccessible to the general public. But Logan has set up a fully functional outpost in Amnesia to get you geared-up. There are also an SL system and subscribe-o group in-world for enthusiasts to join for free and keep up on the latest installments. So what are you waiting for? Get yur arse down there and join the mayhem, maggots!

Seems I’m not the only one that’s experiencing delays: Logan Skytower’s main store in the sim of Caisteal is currently unavailable as the whole area undergoes renovations. The BUBU Chief has ordered I hold back on my full review until it is up and running again, so I’ll have to stand down on the post until further word. Basic Background
Right after finishing public schooling, Terry enlisted into the armed services. She managed to find herself not only stationed abroad, but captured by enemy forces and brutally tortured. When she was finally recovered, she was so mentally incapacitated that her living family could not take care of her, and she found herself in the capacity and control of the government. With no need to fill out forms or account to anyone but themselves, she was subjected to extreme experimentation. The primary focus of her tests were in regeneration, compatibility with technology, and reproduction. As the results were not to the military’s standards at the time, the data was processed and she was discarded into a ward facility. Time passed, and her silent, non-interactive personality caused her to be forgotten by the staff.

Somewhere along the line, something sparked within her broken mind that lead her to slip quietly away from her confinement. Since her escape, the hybrid has been meandering the land, surviving off primal instincts. The infusion of fish, amphibian and reptilian DNA has rapidly increased her ability to regenerate damage and heal, while mildly heightening her senses of perception. The extreme compatibility with technology allows her to easily assimilate new parts into her largely cybernetic form. While untested, old government files listed her ability to procreate as high, though unstable. Despite these abilities, she is still vulnerable – no super reflexes, no enhanced intelligence, or other extraordinary skills are available to her. Her mental state is broken, her social skills null, and her ability to connect with technology leaves her vulnerable to viruses, hacking and other remote manipulation.

When trust is gained, she is mostly quiet, her communication broken and facial expression typically aloof and detached. She seems very unsure of herself, as though she is aware that she is not at full-capacity; despite her actions, she is capable of understanding complex thought and directions provided she is given time to process.

– Regeneration Details
While the DNA manipulation did yield some fruit, it was not what was desired of the experiment. Scratches, minor cuts and bruises mend faster than normal, but require a great deal of energy, leaving the subject incredibly fatigued. Digits and moderate loss of tissue may be fully regrown, but the individual is left extremely drained and highly immobile for a week or longer. More complex limbs and organs cannot regenerate to their full function, and any attempt to will leave the subject in an unconscious, coma-like state; it is wiser to surgically reattach anything lost or apply new tissue altogether. Though the natural regeneration of cells kept the subject perpetually young, the extreme process and the scientists inability to refine it made it unusable to outside markets.

Out of Character Notes

- The major problem people seem to have with this character is her regeneration. First off, she is no Wolverine- if there is only a cell of her left, she will not come back. She is still susceptible to disease, bleeding to death, being crushed, and so on. Secondly, she is not designed to be self-sufficient: not only if she gets hurt is still left vulnerable and in need of care, but she will suffer from pain, fear and other negative emotions when subjected to it. This is a timid creature, and if she gets wounded, she is not going to think, “Oh, it will grow back, so I’ll keep being a jackass.” I chose this ability because I wanted to remove the ‘permanent disfigurement’ limitation (because really, bad guys don’t care if you look hideous if they get the job done) and it provides a different healing method than just going to the clinic and getting a new prosthetic.

- The intent of the ease of technology and the variability of limbs stems from my love to change my avatar’s appearance. Some days, I want to have short hair; other days it’s a different color- it’s just how I am. it is not so I can hack into systems and take control of things or install some machine-gun attachment. The character would have to be manipulated by another power to do those things, as she has no motivation, or really mental ability to do so. Frankly, she’s not at her fullest capacity as a character unless she’s toyed and tampered with by someone else.

- My greatest wish for this character would involve a complex plot involving a military organization trying to reclaim her. I love an epic chase mixed with hide n’ seek when done properly. A bonus would be if there was one or more organizations competing with the military to control of her, either for her good or their own gain. I’m really interested in adding other elements – maybe other players have characters that were one of the few experiments, as well – and generally hearing other people’s thoughts. Provided, of course, that they’re not just shooting things down or confining it into a nice, safe box. You can only prevent problems in gaming so far- there’s always going to be an asshole out there that screws things up and you need to boot. I’d say I’m a fairly experienced gamer and I know how to manage my characters.

I was honestly hoping to have the ball rolling with the postings of the three update entries. Well, they postings came, and time went. Rather at a fast march, if I might add. Writer’s block is not the issue- I have a bunch of ideas bubbling and ready to to take form. My issue lies in motivation and obligation.

And various explosions in between.

The first major insanity that took time away from doing anything productive was my ex-partner rubbing me the wrong way for a final time. If you’re my boss, you can act like a manager; if you’re my friend, act like a friend. Acting friendly but ultimately being a manager – without having some sort of agreed upon exchange of goods or services – does not fly with me, at all. I can be a bossy person and I’ve caught flack for it, so I know it’s not OK.

So, I picked up all my prims (probably 95% of the sim’s environment) and moved. Thanks to the hospitality of Vash & Sin, I was able to transplant my skybox in it’s entirety and install my photostudio on the roof. I’ll try to get the photos I took edited so people can get a sense of what was there and why I waited so long to leave.

I also promised Logan, mastermind behind the BUBU, a review of some of his products. This is not really a problem- I just want to make this my major post before anything else. In my view, it’s my obligation, as I gave my word and he gave me his work. I’ve had this on my ‘to-do’ list for over a month, and I feel terrible about it. Thankfully, the Swansong event is over, the models at DV8 have been informed about the Twisted Hunt, and I think I’ve gotten my roleplay managed, and I aim to shoot photos and edit them today, with the blog post being written tomorrow.

I actually know where I’m going to do the artistic shots of the new BUBU because of some new RP I’ve gotten into with one of my close friends. The insanity and DNA scramble I usually play have been put on the self for Midian City while I tackle the challenge of playing a human mechanic recruited with the League; Dax, my self-described bodyguard, plays a gritty marine totting around a SAW.

I am the last person to know anything about the military, so I see this as a major opportunity to gain a new perspective, especially as the environment I’ve grown up is… Not anti-military, but definitely pro-”every other option”. To further emphasize this, my real life uncle served his time in the army, while my Opa was a proud member of the Screaming Eagles paratrooper company; while my family is not for the wars abroad, we respect and full-heatedly appreciate the work and risks our armed forces are taking for us. And with that soap box out of the way and my inventory packed with new fatigues, I’m aiming to do a series in that schema.

Continuing on the tangent of guys, my other close buddy I RP with is Dent. We had a falling out little less than a year ago, and somehow, we ran back into each other. With both of our baggage checked and accounted for, we’re closer than ever- he is “my bro”. (He’s the one on the stand in red in the photo.) Both of our shoulders are open for the other, and both of us have taken up the offer. He’s been challenging himself in RP by playing a good-focused character in Incorrigible, as opposed to the typically dark, sinister vampire he usually dons. Of course, this in no way inhibits him from being equally mischievous and alluring. And yes, you’re encouraged to let your imagination wander.

Back on the main subject of madness, a major preference of the staff at Shipyard has lead me to re-evaluate whether or not I can really play there. First and foremost, my time is already limited- school starts next Tuesday, I have my duties as Head Model, and I’m already active in two other environments. I do respect their wish to be preventative of problems, but I don’t have the energy or will to basically make a new character. The sim has a beautiful build (which isn’t shown; that’s SICK, or S.I.C.49), and I really like the structure and responsibility they request of players in the application process, but I’d imagine that with that procedure would make it so that the group playing will interact responsibly.

I’ve talked a little with other friends about playing in other places, such as INSILICO or Doomed Ship; I’m terribly fond of my little experiment, and I want her to be more than an idea. However, I do not want to jump through a bunch of hoops to have an exciting, interesting plot. As part of her backstory involves the military, her records will probably be popping up here. I am waiting twenty-four hours before making a clear-cut decision about Shipyard, as it’s not simple to get in or out, and I’m definitely interested in feedback.

On the upswing, I did win first place in the Magical Photo Contest held by Kouse’s Sanctum in the raw snapshot category. As part of the prize, I got to pick out 25 products in the store, a trophy, and a custom-made dress. Now, I also won the top prize during House Of London’s Customer Appreciation event, and that was terribly difficult for me- I get overwhelmed with options and indecision! The trophy is incredibly awesome and helped keep me calm as I held it tightly to my polygons while browsing the vendors. A lot of my focus, however, went into creating the design for my gown. I was worried at first that my drawing skills wouldn’t be on par with conveying my idea, but I’m very pleased with how this turned out. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I have a passion for attire and accessories that look grown rather than simply worn by the user. I found some truly amazing images while browsing for ideas. I’m praying that it doesn’t give Kouse too much of a headache.

Finally, some building tension and stress between my real life boyfriend and I has diffused, and I feel so much more… Comfortable is too simple a word. It was not that I wasn’t safe before, but I feel less guarded and freer to be myself. We really connected last night; I felt this sublime wash of euphoria flow through me at the climax of the discussion. This is a rare feeling for me, and I may have only experienced it one other time a few years ago, so I really feel positive about this relationship and where I’m headed as an individual.
