Flora – Sanctum

Flora - Sanctum I

“It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.”
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Back in late August, I placed first in the raw category of the first contest held by Kouse’s Sanctum. I received a limited set of jewelry, a selection of fantasy garments, an adorable trophy, and the opportunity to request a gown to be made. For those that know me and my odd tastes, requesting something “raw” comes as no surprise- I wanted something overgrown, lush with plant life, and bringing the whole forest- not just flowers – together in an elegant ensemble.

It was quite a tall order, but Kouse tailored away in her workshop to create this foliage formal, the Toland gown. It is not exactly what I dreamed, but I still love it, and here’s why: I know this was a challenge, and a creator is as much an artist as a producer. This is her concept that she has presented the world, guided by the rare request that she takes. I would have been more than happy to receive one dress of choice, but Kouse went the extra mile in showing her gratitude towards the contestants.
